Advent 2.6

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
and the leopard shall lie down with the kid,
and the calf and the lion and the fatling together,
and a little child shall lead them.
... They shall not hurt or destroy
in all my holy mountain;
for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.

[Isaiah 11:6, 9]

I wish these verses felt like less of a fantasy today. The world is not supposed to be like this, with 20 children dead at their school before lunch (Friday was always pizza day...). I have no reflection to offer; no words of Advent anticipation or excitement. I've been thinking so much about children this week, because Jesus was first a child. This shakes me to the core. God, no italicized prayer, just be with those affected, sit with them, cry with them, hold them and cook for them and rock them to sleep. Carry all of us through these days. And unto us a child will yet again be born, Peace.
